How Does the Lightning Process® Work?

The Lightning Process® (LP) applies well-evidenced scientific principles so that you can get back in charge of three very important processes in your body – the Physical Emergency Response, the Allostatic Load, and Neuroplasticity.

These concepts are explained below so that you can understand how the LP works to create and maintain change.

Physical Emergency Response & Allostatic Load

Allostasis is the ability of our body to manage itself depending on what we need – it regulates homeostasis to decrease physiological consequences to the body. Homeostasis is the condition of optimal functioning in the body.

Allostatic Load is the “wear and tear” on the body, which accumulates as the body is exposed to repeated or chronic stress. Stress is the body’s method of reacting to a threat using the Physical Emergency Response (PER).

The PER is the “flight or fight” response – it is our body’s natural physical reaction to any threat and provides amazing bursts of strength and speed, changing the body’s hormones and fuel usage and so on – and is ideal for escaping a tiger in the wild.

The PER is generally a good thing, but it is really designed to be activated only for very short periods of time.

Unfortunately, the “threats” we find ourselves under today, such as illness, chronic infections, pollution, relationships, jobs, exams, and/or finances, tend to last for longer periods of time. 

And research shows that long-term activation of these changes as a result of the PER is really unhealthy for us because it increases our body’s allostatic load – creating havoc with our sleep, healing and immune system, digestion, clear thinking, and general mood  – and has been shown to be linked to chronic illness, including heart disease, abdominal obesity, hypertension, diabetes, migraines, pain, asthma, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Reducing the allostatic load is considered vital for improving chronic health conditions.

The LP does this by teaching you how to spot when the PER is happening and how you can calm this response down, allowing your body to re-balance itself.


Neuroplasticity is the brain’s amazing ability to rapidly change just by being used differently. 

Research has shown that simply by using new ways of thinking, old nerve pathways are switched off and replaced by new, more useful, pathways.

The LP will teach you how to use neuroplasticity to break out of any destructive unconscious patterns that are keeping you stuck, and learn to use new, life and health-enhancing, ones instead.
